Los Angeles, CA

Listed as a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Landmark, this 40,000 SF Historic Preservation and Restoration project required an approach that would preserve its historical significance while creating a modern creative office for emerging companies and the new collaborative office work force.

The five story Pettebone Building served as the manufacturing and design facility for the first street lamps along Broadway and throughout Downtown Los Angeles. With respect to its historic legacy, Wolcott worked directly with the client and city officials to propose creative solutions for restoring historical elements as well as introducing modern building infrastructures, including the renovation of the original building facades, cornice, interior stair as well as new elevator, seismic reinforcement, five story high structural moment frame system, and new roof deck as office amenity.

Since the construction, the project has been praised from the neighborhood council and city officials for its effort to enhance Broadway Historic Corridor and successfully preserving the building’s history.
