The high-tech supplier WebSense (formerly Phasemetrics) turned to Wolcott to implement an expansion plan to accommodate the ambitious employee growth from 40 to 800. The expansion involved multi-location facilities that included a total of 300,000 square feet of administrative space, R&D laboratories and manufacturing in San Diego and Fremont, California.
For the new headquarters’ exterior, Wolcott envisioned dynamic rectilinear elements that combine to create an energetic contemporary structure. The existing simple box-like structure was opened, punctuated and articulated to accommodate an impressive new lobby and an employee cafeteria with an outdoor patio that maximizes exterior views and natural light. Dramatic lighting accentuates the architecture in the evening hours.
